Who uses Doula Services?

This was our second birth, but the first time we used a doula. The difference was night and day. At times, my wife felt like she wouldn't be able to continue with her birth plan or felt like she was failing, but Joanne's words of encouragement kept her going. She does not see this as a 9-5 job or a hobby and is very passionate about her work. When we needed her most, she was like a breath of fresh air.

About the staff...

Each member of staff receives their initial training and continuing education from recognized professionals in all aspects of doula care. Doula's are members of Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association (CAPPA) and/or Doula's of North America (DONA) and/or Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators (ALACE).

It is our mission at "Mum's the Word" to provide you with as much rest and reassurance possible. Prior to employment, each Doula is carefully screened through a police background check to insure competence and past history. You'll have additional peace of mind knowing all Doulas comply with the highest standards of care, such as:

  • CPR certification
  • Fully insured
  • Professional courtesy
  • Knowledge and attention to your needs
  • Ability to offer loving attention to your children while you rest or care for your newborn
  • Non-judgmental and supportive
  • A comforting and calming presence

For additional information please call our office. We will carefully match your family with a Doula based on your specific needs, preferences and geographic location. An informal interview in the comfort of your home is then arranged if desired.
